On September 10, 2016, the Literacy Council of Benton County Arkansas held its Third Annual "Read Between the Wines" fundraising event at the River Grille Steakhouse in Bentonville, which offered the perfect atmosphere for a great evening.
Guests enjoyed an elegant four-course dinner with delicious seafood, pork and beef dishes in what was a truly superb gastronomic event. Each course, including dessert, was carefully paired with a fine wine to accentuate every flavor.
Throughout the night, well-known personalities from the local community read thought-provoking and humorous passages from various authors. Singer and musician, Wini Rubi (@winirubi), provided the perfect ambiance with her ukulele and guitar while guests enjoyed the food, the wine and lively conversation.
The silent auction was a hit with guests, with high-value items such as trips to the wine country of Napa Valley, temperature controlled wine racks and baskets of fine wines. However, the most coveted auction item of the evening, which ignited an intense bidding war, was a five-course, private dinner for eight, prepared by the master chef and paired with wines chosen by the sommelier at Brightwater: The Center for the Study of Food. The currently under-expansion Northwest Arkansas Community College culinary school, Brightwater, is part of a project funded by the Walton Family Foundation and will be completed in 2017. The opportunity for a private dinner with wine pairings is truly an exclusive sneak preview of great things to come in the community.
The supporters of the Literacy Council showed up in large numbers to the event, securing their tickets early and making this a sold-out event a month in advance. The auction items were generously donated by individuals and corporate supporters. The Literacy Council, as a non-profit organization, depends on the generosity of community members to secure the funds it needs, in order to reduce adult illiteracy, which changes the lives of our students, their children and the community.
On behalf of the Literacy Council of Benton County, I thank everyone who supported the organization through this fun-filled evening. We hope to see you and your friends at our next fundraising event.
